On February 15^th 2014 Prof.  R.K.Singhla, H.O.D., School of Computer Science & Applications, Punjab University, Chandigarh visited the department.  Prof. R.K. Singhla interacted with the research scholars and P.G. students of CS & IT department on the role of open source software in research. He emphasised upon the use of various open source software that are useful in research. He also discussed the criteria for selection, updation, implementation & formalization of the same.  The lecture covered the scope of open source technologies, their usage, advantages, limitations and various other aspects. The scholars and students were highly benefited by the session.
